Imagine Black Presents: 2021 School Board Chats Series

During the Spring 2021 School Board Election for Portland Public Schools, Imagine Black’s goal is to endorse strong candidates for the Portland School Board race in seats 4, 5, and 6; candidates who will be allies on the School Board and champions for abolition work in our schools. 

We also plan to educate, activate, and engage community members throughout the endorsement process. 

There is an opportunity to increase the voting power of Black Portlanders who want to transform the face and policies of education in Portland. The data shows that Portland Public School Board Elections have the potential to be decided by Black voters, creating space for Black leadership, issues, and solutions to surface as a priority for candidates and decision-makers.

The School Board Chat series is an opportunity to get educated on the roles of the school board leaders and help up transform the face and policies of Portland Public Schools. This programming will be led by Imagine Black’s Political Director, Shani Harris-Bagwell, and feature local Black leaders in education like Michelle DePass and Libra Forde.

Join us every Saturday in April (4/3, 4/10, 4/17, + 4/24) from 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm PST for our virtual sessions!
