2020 Endorsements
This year began with COVID-19 hitting Black communities hard, highlighting the disparities in health care and treatment that we have known about for years. After the murder of Breonna Taylor, communities across the nation said enough is enough. Uprisings against a racist policing system have occurred nightly in Portland for more than three months, halting only briefly because of the devastating fires that ravaged much of Oregon and created air so toxic we could not open our windows or leave our homes.
This year has reminded us of our resilience and of all the work there is still to be done. We are called to remain vigilant in the fight for Black liberation.
One of the ways we continue the struggle is to increase our Black political power by researching and voting for policies and candidates that get us closer to our goals for Black liberation.
To that end, Imagine Black is thrilled to announce our ballot measure endorsements for 2020.
We believe that if we vote together, we can win investments in transportation infrastructure: better bus connections to help us move across our region, designated transit funding for our youth, and lasting commitments to the people who ride public transit. This is why we are asking you to please vote YES on Measure 26-218, Get Moving 2020. Learn more about our endorsement here.
We believe that if we vote together, we can win tuition-free, culturally appropriate, high-quality preschool for 3 and 4-year-olds, as well as fair wages for preschool teachers in Multnomah County. That is why we are asking you to vote YES on Measure 26-214 Preschool for All. Learn more about our endorsement here.
We have chosen to remain neutral on Measure 26-217, you can read more about that decision here.
Imagine Black is proud to be part of the Oregon Childcare Project and to support candidates that will fight for the childcare access and infrastructure Oregonians deserve — candidates that listen to and understand our needs.
By electing mothers, caregivers, and BIPOC (Black and Indigenous people of color) candidates who will prioritize the needs of our families, we can ensure that none of our children are overlooked or forgotten.
